Canary | | | Despite
having worked on the first year of Birds of Prey, this is my first inking commission
of Dinah Lance. This was pencilled pretty darn tight, so I used a combo of brush
and rapidograph pens w/ circle templates for all the flips in her hair. I would've
brushed her hair (so to speak), but every line was faintly and tightly rendered.
You guessed it: a trace job!

| Zatanna |
| I
inked this a while ago at Megacon, I think, and I had forgotten my brush and quill
that day, so I ended up inking the entire figure in rapidograph. Ya gotta learn
to be adaptable in this biz! This looks like it could be proposal piece for a
Zatanna series as she seems a natural fit for Lopresti's propensity to draw good-looking
leggy women! | | | Penciller:

| Unpublished
USAgent #3 Cover | | | I
just love seeing unpublished covers, and this is at least my forth such cover
I've gotten to ink. My only reason I suspect that it was rejected was the lack
of a full costume and/or mask. I got a chance to do my black toothbrush splat
attack. Lately I've been using comic book backing boards to block off the areas
I don't want splatter on, because the boards are just small and firm enough to
move around the page, rather than tape everything down, which takes more time.
Note on the pencil version that there is a section near USAgent's head that was
somehow erased! I had to fudge what the penciller had in mind. |

Raging Doom |
remember buying Fantastic Four #200 as a kid, so imagine the thrill I experienced
knowing I would get to ink the penciller of that landmark issue, Keith Pollard!
For a time, Pollard, a utility man working on all the big books, Spider-Man, Thor
and others was the next best thing to John Buscema as far as Drawing Comics The
Marvel Way. The "Richards!" comment was added by me in a fit of inspiration.
Also added by me was Doom's missing finger at the bottom (see pencil version).

| Punisher
in Trenchcoat | | | Frank
Castle has the classic look with his original hairline and some classic guns,
rather than the heavy ordinance you see him with more often than not. This has
a 1970's Deathwish feel to it. I used quill on the face and hair, brush on the
coat, rapidograph on the guns, which are touched up with a 90% Grey Prismacolor
pencil. Years ago, I would have tried using China Markers for the greytones, but
you can't get tight details with them. | | Pencillers:

| Zatanna |
Here's
a pencil and ink job by me, with a little Spanish thrown in there (thanks for
the translation, Marjorie!). Remember that nightmarishly-ugly costume Zatanna
was given in the '70's Justice League? Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and
the classic fishnet "magic act" look returned in the late '80's. And
we haven't looked back since! In my excitement (I was happy with the way I drew
the anatomy without reference) , I forgot her tophat! D'oh!

stretching of the pencil muscles for me. For some reason, the facial features
still take me the most time, as I touch up a little here and there until it finally
makes some sense. | | Penciller:
