This
doesn't quite qualify as "pencil-to-ink study", but rather
an inker contributing art corrections. Besides, I couldn't think of
a more appropriate page to put this on. On our last two issues of
B.O.P., Greg shared pencilling duties with Patrick Zircher. I inked
both to maintain consistency, but I received the pages out of order.
I inked Patrick's pages (11-15) first, and sent them to then-editor
Joe Illidge. When I started inking Greg's pages (1- 10), I was confused
about the panel where a trenchcoated alien got cut in half by a shotgun,
then scrambled away using it's arms, leaving the legs behind. A quick
look at Chuck Dixon's script requested exactly that. so... |

For
the sake of time, Joe and I agreed that I should fix this glitch.
Since I kept photocopies of everything, I cut and pasted a redrawn
exoskeletal torso, losing the legs, showing more of the tattered
raincoat. These kinds of repair jobs are fun, time permitting. I
don't recall, but I believe Patrick's page said only that Black
Canary and Catwoman come across the remains of the alien's exoskeleton.
Most scripts are obviously intended for one penciller, so this was
an understandable continuity slip. Pat's another artist who deserves
more hype, because he drew incredibly detailed battle scenes on
Apokolips in this story.
